Minimum tread levels

In the UK, the legal minimum tread is 1.6 mm. For reference, this is approximately the depth of a 20p coin.

It’s important to note that this depth is required across at least 75% of each tyre, which isn’t always easy to assess by the untrained eye.

Call us today to arrange an assessment of your tyres in Lytham St Annes.

Recommended tyre levels

Whilst the minimum tyre tread, legally, can remain at 1.6mm, this is not the safest level to retain your tyre safety.

The RAC recommends that the minimum tread level on your tyres to be no lower than 3mm – lower than this, and you risk less grip on the roads, which is particularly dangerous in wet weather.

Book in today, and we can assess how safe your current tyres are.

Can you fit tyres while I wait?

Of course. We have comfortable facilities for you to wait in while we change your tyres. Call us to book an appointment.

What size tyres do I need?

The size of your current tyres should be printed on the front of your tyre (the section facing outwards when you face the wheel).

Bear in mind though – if you’ve purchased a preowned car, it may not have the correct tyres fitted. Call into the garage for a free assessment of your tyres in Lytham.

How do I check my tyre pressure?

The level of pressure which your tyres need depends on the type of vehicle you have – it’s determined by the class of vehicle, and even the make and model. The pressure level you need should be stated in the vehicle manual.

Pressure can be measured in two ways: bar or PSI. You’ll need a pressure gauge to measure this accurately. Simply remove the cap from the valve on the tyre, mount the gauge, and read the dial.

If the reader shows your tyre is underinflated, you can pump your tyre at any local petrol station. Alternatively, if the pressure is too high, let out some air until it reaches optimum pressure.

What is wheel alignment?

Wheel alignment is necessary for your tyres to make correct contact with the road service. When your wheels are misaligned, the tyres fail to create that bond, making your car unsafe to drive.

When your wheels aren’t aligned, they create excessive resistance when you drive. In turn, this causes:

  • greater pressure on your battery and transmission
  • instability when you drive
  • fuel inefficiency.

Poor wheel alignment is unsafe and costly. Call us today to get it fixed as soon as possible

Is my alignment wrong?

There are a few tell-tale signs that you’re having problems with your alignment.

It’s important to be aware of what’s happening with your vehicle. So, if you’re having any of the following issues, get in touch.

  • Your vehicle pulling to the left or right as you drive
  • Your steering wheel looking crooked when driving straight
  • Uneven or rapid tyre wear.

If you’re unsure whether wheel alignment is the root of the issue, contact us to discuss car servicing and solve the problem quickly and effectively.

How much does alignment cost?
