One of Audi’s latest innovations is the “Predictive Active Suspension” in the Audi A8. With this advanced system, each wheel has its own actuator that adjusts the suspension springs independently.
As a result, the car’s ride height can be actively managed, ensuring a comfortable ride on different terrains. Furthermore, this system can change the body height of your Audi by up to 85mm every 0.5 seconds.
There Are Several Types of Suspension at the Front of Audi Vehicles:
- MacPherson Strut: Despite being less common in Audis, the MacPherson Strut is found in models such as the Audi TT. The design is simple and space-efficient, making it suitable for compact vehicles.
- Double-Wishbone: In models such as the Audi R8 and Audi Q7, this suspension type offers independent wheel movement and precise handling. For enhanced comfort, the Audi Q7 uses air springs.
- Multi-Link or Five-Link Suspension: Four control arms per side are used on most Audi suspensions. With this configuration, camber, caster, and toe can be fine-tuned, improving handling and stability, especially on larger models like the A6.
There Are Several Types of Suspension at the Rear of Audi Vehicles:
- Double-Wishbone: In high-performance models like the Audi R8, this suspension type offers independent wheel movement similar to the front variant.
- Four-Link: The upper links and lower trailing arms of this setup control axle movement, allowing axle travel and articulation on models like the Audi TT Quattro.
- Self-Tracking Trapezoidal-Link: Providing high torsional and bending stiffness, this configuration isolates vibrations from the car body. Typically, it is found in larger models like the Audi A6.
With Audi’s Drive Select system, drivers can also customise their vehicle’s behaviour with dynamic or adaptive suspension.
With Dynamic mode, the throttle response is quickened, gear shifts occur at higher RPMs, and steering is stiffened. In Comfort mode, the suspension and steering are softer for a smoother ride, while in Auto mode, comfort and performance are balanced. For personalised settings, there is also an Individual mode.
